Our Guides

All guides are indigenous locals with an innate knowledge of the jungle environment. Trained to the highest standards of safety and professionalism ensuring you get the most out of your expedition.

Misael Cerda, age 34. Misael began working in tourism at 19. He has traveled extensively in the Amazon region. He was also spent time travelling in the US where he had the opportunity to meet with different cultural groups, exchanging ideas and bringing these ideas back to the Amazon.

"My knowledge of the jungle and medicinal plants began at a very early age through my Grandfather and Mother. When I was 19 I began working occasionally for tour operators in Tena as a cook and then as an assistant guide. I learnt a lot about tourism and above all about guiding in the jungle. It was easy for me and when I discovered the natural beauty of the area as a guide, I knew I had to share it with others."

"I decided to look for another source of income to secure a living for my community and my family. I thought about finding another type of job in an industry such as agriculture, mining, or oil, but I saw the richness that we have here in the jungle but never knew how to promote it. In fact, I saw many people were working to destroy the jungle through mining and logging."

"Then in Janauary 2009 my community setup Bartolo of Uchuculin Association, one of its first projects was setting up Akangau Ecotourism Expeditions. Our new agency has greater focus on helping communities. It reflects our new ideas and allows us to share our extensive experience in community tourism."

All our guides are skilled at teaching and showing the best of our Amazon region and it will be our pleasure to teach you about our world

Our guides speak Kichwa, Spanish, and a little English and all are licensed by the Ecuadorian Tourism Ministry
