“Serena” 3 Days/2 Nights

DAY ONE

Meet in our office in Tena at 8.30am.

Your tour will commence by taking a 40 minute taxi ride and then a 30 minute walk to the community of Serena.

Our cabins are situated between the two Rivers of Ilululin and Napo. After settling into the cabins your guide will bring you on a two hour hike to explore the jungle. He will explain the different plants and flora along the way. You will learn about which plants, fruits, and trees have been an invaluable source of food, medicine, wood, household items and clothing for the Kichwa people both past and present. You will return to the cabins for lunch at approximately 1.30pm After lunch you can relax around the cabins in the hammocks and/or take a swim in the crystal clear waters of the River Ilululin. In the evening, it is possible to have a cleansing ritual with a traditional Shaman. Dinner will be served at 6.30pm

DAY TWO

Breakfast will be served at 8.30am After breakfast the Guide will bring you on a hike deeper into the jungle. He will continue to show you the different plants, fruits, and trees and explain how they are used in the Kichwa. Along the way you will see two gigantic trees known as "Ceibo" that are approximately 400-years old and you will discover the magic that they hold. You will have lunch along the llukulin River. After lunch you can swim and take time to relax and enjoy the beauty of the jungle. You will arrive back in the cabins around 4.30pm in time to relax before dinner. In the evening dinner will be served at 6.30pm

DAY THREE

Breakfast will be served at 8.30am. After breakfast you can practise your fishing skills in the River Ilukulin with your guide. The fish that are caught will be prepared by your guide for lunch. After fishing you will visit the home of a Kichwa family and they will welcome you with a bowl of "Chicha” the local drink made from yucca. Your guide will explain how the "Chicha" is prepared and its importance in the Kichwa culture. Lunch will be served at 12.30 am. After lunch you can learn how to make traditional Kichwa jewellery such as bracelets and necklaces from natural fibres and seeds.

You will arrive back in Tena at approximately 5pm

  • Transport in the Tena area (By taxi and local bus)

What´s not included in the price?

Payment for the Shaman - this is local payment directly to the Shaman approximately $10.00 per person

What to bring:

  • Swimwear (for walking in the waterfalls)
  • Shorts
  • A hat
  • Long trousers (not jeans) for walking in the jungle
  • Long sleeved top or light sweater
  • Insect repellent Sun Cream
  • Shoes (We supply boots but we suggest bringing a pair of light shoes for walking in the cabanas)
  • A small bottle for carrying water
  • Torch
