Limoncocha 4 Days 3 Nights
4 days/3 nights - $48 per person per day
Limoncocha Reserve is situated in the Lower Napo Region. Tours depart from Tena at 11pm by bus. The journey time is approximately 7 hours.
DAY ONE
You will arrive in Limoncocha at approximately 6am.
From here you will travel by motorised canoe for 20 minutes across the Limoncocha lagoon to your cabanas in a small clearing in the jungle beside a Kichwa family. You will have time to settle into your cabanas, freshen up, and relax before breakfast. After breakfast your guide will give you a short orientation and discuss how to watch out for dangerous animals and insects.
Then you will take a walk around the cabanas with your guide. This is the start of your learning process over the next four days about how the plants, fruits and trees of the jungle have been an invaluable source of food, medicine, wood, household items, clothing and much more for the Kichwa people both past and present.
You will return to the cabanas for lunch at approximately 12.30pm. After lunch you will spend the afternoon canoeing and fishing for piranhas. All fish that is caught will be served for dinner that evening. You will get back to the cabanas at approximately 5:00 pm.
Dinner will be served at 6.30pm
DAY TWO
Breakfast will be served at 8.30am. After breakfast your guide will bring you on a hike deep into the jungle. He will continue to show you the different plants, fruits and trees and explain how they are used in the Kichwa culture both past and present. During the hike you will see gigantic trees - "ceibo" - that are approximately 400-500 years old and you will discover the magic that they hold. You will have the opportunity to swing from huge vines just like Tarzan. You will also have the chance to swim in a river called the "Rio Blanco" (White River). Here you will stop for lunch and if you wish a little fishing.
You will return to the cabanas at 3:00 pm and after a comfortable rest, head towards the lagoon by canoe to see the crocodiles, birds and luminous insects. This is a chance to spend part of the evening enjoying the magnificent night concert that surrounds you. Dinner will be served at 7.00pm.
DAY THREE
Breakfast will be served at 7.30am. Early in the morning, you will start your journey by canoe into the lagoon, to see the large variety of aquatic birds that populate this area. You will see tiny islands formed by "Chontillas" and "Asturias", an established colony of birds, and their nests that live in the reserve. You will return to the cabins for lunch and then prepare for a walk into the jungle to visit the Shaman and his family. If you wish to take part in a Shaman Ritual this is possible, then you will sleep in the Shaman´s house this night. Otherwise you will return to sleep in the cabanas.
Dinner will be served at 6.30pm. After dinner your guide will start a bonfire around the cabin and this night will be particularly special because there will be surprises, stories, legends, and myths about his Kichwa ancestors. You will have the opportunity to taste a typical type of liquor from the jungle, known as "guayusazo".
DAY FOUR
After an early breakfast, before commencing your journey back to Tena, you will take a small hike into the jungle to where you can enjoy the presence and acrobatic abilities of the "Bariso" monkeys in their natural environment. Arriving back to the cabanas mid morning, you will take the motorised canoe back across the lagoon where your adventure will end.
** This program can vary depending on bad weather and the number of days that one decides to stay. Please note a minimum number of 3 days is required. All are capable of visiting the community, although the day excursions into the jungle require a certain level of fitness.
